Remotely Monitor, Manage and Share Connected Devices Over a Network or the Internet

The UDS100 Device Server lets you connect serial devices to IP-based Ethernet networks, quickly and easily. Powered by DSTni-LX, Lantronix’s own device networking chip, the UDS100 lets you replace limited distance, point-to-point serial connections.

Using a method called serial tunneling, the UDS100 encapsulates serial data into packets and transports it over Ethernet. Using two UDS100s connected by a network, virtual serial connections can be extended across a facility or around the world.

Our approach to network-enabling devices is transparent to your attached devices and software. So, you won’t need to change the way you work, and there’s no need to develop special software to take advantage of Ethernet networking.

The included redirection software simplifies your integration process by extending the functionality of your COM port-based Windows® applications. With virtual COM ports, mapped to remote Device Servers on the network, you can replace direct serial connections.

In modem emulation mode, the UDS100 is used to replace dial-up modems. The unit accepts modem AT commands on the serial port, then establishes a network connection to the end device, leveraging network infrastructure and bandwidth to eliminate dedicated modems and phone lines.

The UDS100 even includes a built-in Web server, which can be used for configuration, or to display operating and troubleshooting information on the attached device. When attached to the Internet, it provides links to online support.

Where there’s a need for custom user interfaces and a desire to use familiar tools, the UDS100 can serve Java applets to a user’s Web browser. In this role, the UDS100 becomes a conduit between you and your device over the network or Internet.

The included Windows-based configuration software simplifies installation and setup. The UDS100 can also be set up locally through its serial port, or remotely over a network using Telnet or a Web browser.

Flash memory provides for maintenance-free non-volatile storage of Web pages, and allows future system software upgrades.

If you’re looking for a transparent, cost-effective and scalable means to network-enable your serial devices, look no further than Lantronix.
