Lantronix Wireless Design Contest Rules
Eligibility
- Any individual or group of individuals, age 18 and older as of the date of entry, may enter the Lantronix Connect Your Imagination to the Net Wireless Design Contest 2007/2008 (“Contest”). As used herein, “Lantronix” refers to Lantronix, Inc.
- Lantronix employees and their families are not eligible.
- Lantronix partners (distributors, resellers, manufacturers rep firms, etc.) are not eligible.
- Contest void where prohibited by law. Contestants living or working in a country, province, or state where the Contest is prohibited are ineligible.
- Entrants living or working in a territory that requires the contest sponsor to post a bond are ineligible.
- Any commercial products already using MatchPort™ b/g that have been marketed and sold prior to August 1, 2007 are not eligible.
- Winner of the “Best entry from a student or educational institution” category may be required to show proof of enrollment in an educational institution in a related field.
Judging Criteria
Contest entries will be judged by Lantronix on the following criteria. Lantronix shall be the final authority as to the conduct and interpretation of the contest rules and awards. Entrants agree to abide by all decisions of Lantronix, which shall be final and binding.

Entry Procedure
- Each project entered in the Contest must be the original work and property of the submitting person or team, or the entrant must have written legal permission from the property owner.
- In the case of projects owned by other parties, the written permission must be included with the entry.
- Projects should be submitted in digital format and must be written in English.
- For an entry to be deemed acceptable it must contain the following:
- Entry Form: The completed online (Registration is now closed), submitted online. After the entry form is received, Lantronix will email a Contest Project Number. This number must be used to identify the project being submitted, and should be attached to all entry documentation, in addition to any correspondence.
- Working Prototype: Contestants must submit a working prototype to help the engineering judges evaluate the entry based on the above criteria. If you can not send a working prototype due to size/weight or proprietary restrictions, a comprehensive documented summary is required. The project’s wireless networking capability must be accomplished with a Lantronix MatchPort b/g.
- Entry Documentation: The complete documented summary of the project and its operation is required. Acceptable file formats are: Word (.doc), Plain Text (.txt) and Adobe PDF (.pdf). Photos and video may supplement the written documentation. Entrants grant Lantronix the right to use any content from the entry documentation to create a publishable abstract and/or promotional materials. Documentation will not be returned.
The project documentation must include a detailed text description of the design and how it works. Entrants may enter more than one project but must submit each with a separate entry form and Contest Project Number.
There should be no personal identification or corporate affiliation markings on any of the submitted materials. Only the assigned Project Number should be used as an ID for the project materials. Entrants who leave their names in headers, footers, tables of content pages, diagrams, etc. may be disqualified.
Deadlines
- All entries must be received on or before 11:59 p.m. EST on March 3, 2008. Entries received or postmarked after that time are ineligible.
- Lantronix assumes no responsibility for lost or late entries. Proof of transmission, other than official confirmation from Lantronix directly, will not be considered as proof of receipt of your entry.
- For the monthly random drawing, entries must be submitted no later than 5:00 PM PDT on the last day of the month to be included in that month’s drawing. Once received, entries qualify for all remaining drawings.
Shipping
Contest entry projects must be shipped to Lantronix (postal address below). Design projects will be returned within approximately 45 days after the contest ends.

The following prizes will be awarded:
First place: $6,000
Second place: $4,000
Third place: $2,000
- Best entry from a student or educational institution: $3,000
- Most Likely to Succeed: $2,000
Winners will be announced at the Embedded Systems Conference (April 14-18, 2008) in San Jose, CA. Contestants need not be present to win. In addition to cash prizes, finalist will also receive travel compensation (round-trip airfare, hotel and meals) up to $1,000 for attending the conference to receive their awards in person. Finalists will be notified by e-mail, telephone, or mail on or before March 21, 2008.
- Following ESC, the winners and overview of their applications will be posted on the Lantronix Web site.
- All monetary prizes will be mailed to the winners within 45 days of Contest close. Effort will be made to pay in local currency; however Lantronix retains the right to pay in U.S. currency. Only the prizes specified in the numbers indicated will be awarded. All winners will be required to sign a statement affirming their eligibility for the contest and compliance of its rules.
- All winners are required to comply with all reasonable requests for tax identification.
Intellectual Property
- Entrants are encouraged to seek patents for any unique or proprietary aspects of their design prior to submission.
- The design remains the intellectual property of the entrant.
- Each contestant entering a project in the Contest hereby grants Lantronix a non-exclusive perpetual, fully paid-up, worldwide license to publish and display the project and any associated documentation.
- All winning projects will be posted (electronic/Internet media) at the discretion of Lantronix.
- All entrants entering projects in the Contest assign to Lantronix a perpetual, fully paid-up, worldwide license to copy, publish and display (in print or electronic/Internet media) the submitted documentation and design.
Additional Terms and Conditions
All entrants and winners agree that registering online constitutes agreement to the terms and conditions of the entry rules.
Odds of winning depend on the number of entries and the decision of the judges, which is final. Prizes are not transferable. Each contestant is solely responsible for any expenses associated with entry and receiving a prize, including any government taxes or other fees. If a winner fails to respond within five business days of notification, an alternate winner will be selected.
Entries made on the Internet will be deemed made by the authorized account holder of the e-mail address submitted at the time of entry. In the event of a dispute, potential winners may be required to provide proof that the potential winner is the authorized account holder of the e-mail address associated with the potentially winning entry. By completing an entry form and submitting an entry, the entrant certifies that the project entered in the Contest is his or her work, or that he or she has written legal permission from the property owner. Furthermore, each entrant must have read and understand the complete rules of the Contest and agree to abide by them.
By entering the Contest, entrants agree to release and hold harmless Lantronix and its affiliates, subsidiaries, officers, directors, representatives, agents, and employees from any and all liability whatsoever for any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind arising from or in connection with, either directly or indirectly, 1) the awarding, acceptance, receipt, possession, use, and/or misuse of any prize awarded herein; or 2) participation in the Contest or any prize related activities, including but not limited to traveling to or from any prize related activity. By accepting a prize, entrants consent to the use of their name, photograph and/or likeness, address, voice, and statements made by or attributed to them, in perpetuity, in any and all media now known or hereafter developed (including, without limitation, print, broadcast, and Internet), for all legitimate business purposes including advertising and promotional activities without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law.
Lantronix reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend this Contest at any time. This Contest shall be interpreted and governed by the laws of the State of California and any applicable laws and regulations of the United States. The entrant agrees that any and all disputes which cannot be resolved between the parties, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, exclusively, before a court located in Orange County, CA having competent jurisdiction, which Court shall apply the laws of the State of California without regard to any principles of conflicts of laws, and submission of said entry constitutes acceptance of such laws. The entrant further agrees that no claims, judgments or awards shall exceed the amount of the Contest prize and under no circumstances shall include attorney's fees; nor shall any entrant be permitted to obtain awards for punitive, incidental, consequential, or other similar damages or have any damage awards multiplied or increased for any reason. |
