Low Power Wi-Fi Modules and Embedded Sofware

GainSpan exhibited the recently introduced GS2000, the industry’s first Wi-Fi/ZigBee chip and modules. The GS2000 enables a single-chip solution that talks to electric meters and a wide variety of appliances and other devices in a home area network. In a demonstration, a sensor board based on the GS2000 will be remotely monitored and controlled from a smartphone.

GainSpan's Thermostat Application Development Kit (ADK) makes it possible to quickly and easily develop a Wi-Fi Communicating Thermostat that can be monitored and controlled from a smartphone.

The World’s Smallest PoE Modules

Silvertel leads the way and produces the smallest 12W and 30W power over Ethernet (PoE) modules for the powered device (PD). The company has always been customer led and now Silvertel has pushed the boundaries even further by reducing the size of their feature rich modules.

The new Ag9800 is fully compliant with IEEE 802.3af providing the complete solution for 12W PoE. The module includes IEEE 802.3 signature, 1.5KV isolation, short-circuit protection along with DC-DC conversion to provide an adjustable 12 or 5V output.

The Ag5300 is designed for higher power applications of up to 30W. These modules are fully compliant with IEEE 802.3af and IEEE 802.3at and again provide the complete solution for PoE. These modules include the IEEE 802.3 signature, 1.5KV isolation, thermal and over current protection along with DC-DC conversion to provide an adjustable 12V output.

Although small, both modules only require the addition of just a few low cost components; two diode bridges and one capacitor on the DC output. This means that the PCB space required is minimal which is essential in all modern electronic design where everything needs to be compact.

These PD modules can be easily added to any Ethernet unit to provide PoE power such as media converters, security cameras, door access systems, IP phones and WIFI access points. These units are the latest in a long line of Silvertel’s high quality yet cost effective PoE solutions that are sold globally.

HE910 – The HE910 modules are small, lightweight, low power consumption and RoHS compliant devices that combines the access to digital communication services in GSM, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS and HSPA networks with Land-Grid Array (LGA) form factor. The LGA package provides ultra-low profile in the integrated solution while at the same time enhancing the performance of mechanical resistance to shock and reducing cost in high-volume applications, saving space and weight in portable devices.

DE910 – The DE910-DUAL is a 3G EV-DO CDMA module featuring the same Land-Grid Array (LGA) form factor as its globally compatible UMTS/HSPA counterpart, the HE910. Along with built-in gpsOne® assisted GPS and autonomous GPS, the DE910-DUAL features an ultra-compact LGA package measuring 28.2 x 28.2 x 2.6mm and an extended operating temperature range of -30°C to +85°C, making it the perfect platform for mobile computing and aftermarket telematics devices.

BSM Wireless – SFM 2000, ETL Electronique – Astus Blue Tag Tracking, WH Electronics – AXON, and WH Electronics – AirLoom are consumer level products that Telit parts have been designed into. Samples of each will be on display in San Jose.

Torex BoothDC/DC series

Torex micro DC/DC series reduces radiation noise and PCB space. The series combines a coil and a control IC in the world’s smallest package.

This product series is suitable for applications which are sensitive to radiation noise from DC/DC converters, such as wireless systems.

It is also ideally suited to applications requiring high density component mounting and improved throughput, including modules and small size products.

XCL201/202/208/209 can handle the output current up to 400mA, XCL205/206 can handle it up to 600mA, XCL213/214 can handle it up to 1.5A.

XC9250/51/52 Series

XC9250/51/52 are 30V input buck DC/DC products. The target application is automotive and industrial application.

Operating ambient temperature is from -40°C to 105°C and they have absolute maximum rating for load dump transient of 46V/400ms(TBD).

XC9250/51 has an internal FET and XC9252 is a controller which requires an external FET.

These products have the synchronization function with the external CLK so their frequency varies to match the external CLK frequency.

These products are going to be compatible with AEC-Q100 in 2014.
