The HAL 2420 and HAL 2425 Hall-effect sensors are the first members of the HAL 24xy family which now offer robust sensor solutions featuring high temperature stability and include wide-ranging diagnosis functions and effective protective circuitry.
Available in the TO92-UT package, the Micronas HAL 24xy sensor family is now able to provide measurements of greater distances with smaller magnets. As the distance information gained is in principle subject to certain deviations, the HAL 2425 is capable of linearizing the output signal using 16 setpoints with 12 bit accuracy. Key parameters such as magnetic field range, sensitivity, output quiescent voltage and output voltage range, can be programmed in a non-volatile, temperature-resistant EEPROM which operates reliably over the complete junction-temperature range from -40 °C to 170 °C. Varying the supply voltage allows for programming via the bidirectional output pin thus eliminating the need for a separate programming pin.
So how does the digital architecture do it? The HAL 24xy is a monolithic integrated circuit which provides an output voltage proportional to the magnetic flux through the Hall plate and proportional to the supply voltage (ratiometric behavior). This voltage is converted to a digital value, processed in the Digital Signal Processing Unit (DSP) according to the settings of the EEPROM registers, converted back to an analog voltage with ratiometric behavior, and buffered by a push-pull output transistor stage.
With new digital architecture and improved Hall functions, the HAL 24xy family is suitable as a solution for detecting throttle valve and accelerator position, pedal position, exhaust gas recirculation and angular measurements.
