AverLogic releases HD FIFO daughter card for Altera’s Cyclone III FPGA
Taipei, 28 October 2011 - AverLogic Technology Corporation, a professional Audio/Video solution provider, introduces an HD video FIFO Development kit for key markets such as HD video capturing, manipulation and networking. The HD FIFO development kit consists of an Altera Cyclone III FPGA main board with embedded dual HSMC ports, a 4.8 Gbps HD FIFO HSMC daughter card and a DVI HSMC daughter card that are used to facilitate validation or implementation of HD video solutions.
This development platform receives HD DVI video and passes it through an 8Mbit x 32 Full HD FIFO data buffer and then transmits the lossless video output to DVI. Data buffering in a FIFO enables features such as Time Base Conversion, Frame Synchronization, Scan Rate Conversion, image capture and others. There are FIFO sample codes available along with the kit that can be executed to demonstrate functions such as live video pass-through, frame freeze, frame capture and pixel comparison (motion detection). The design can easily be used as the basis of more complex systems such as Frame rate conversion, Video Data Insertion and other video metric algorithms.
The AL460A FIFOs are designed with a straightforward bus interface\ which helps customers develop their products faster and more efficiently and also reduces the amount of required debugging. The software and supporting design files are optimized so that the hardware can be easily integrated into existing systems, thus significantly reducing engineering issues commonly found in retrofit efforts. All of these advantages allow designers the luxury of being able to focus on core product functionality and quality. About the AL460A HD-FIFO Altera Daughter Card
The AL460A module offers a maximum 4.8 Gbps data throughput and is designed with Dual Embedded AL460A-7-PBF (or AL460A-13-PBF) chips to demonstrate the full potential of HD-FIFO technology.
An HSMC Adaptor board with a standard HSMC interface can be connected to the AL460A module via the two 50-pin connectors; this Adaptor Board can then be attached directly to an Altera FPGA development board with HSMC expansion port for validating and benchmarking chipsets.
